The Moab Valley Multicultural Center began offering official housing and homelessness services in July 2019 with help from the State of Utah Office of Homelessness and the Grand County Local Homeless Council (GCLHC).
The Moab Valley Multicultural Center made this decision for several reasons:
- More people without housing—both long-term and short-term—were coming to the Moab Valley Multicultural Center for help.
- There was and is a serious lack of affordable and low-income housing in Grand County.
- The state did not have accurate information about how many people in the area need housing or homelessness support.
The Moab Valley Multicultural Center works closely with the State of Utah and the Grand County Local Homeless Council to help make homelessness in Moab rare, short, and not repeated. On average, about 100 people each month in Moab are either homeless or close to losing their housing. This number comes from data collected by Moab's Coordinated Entry Committee.
At the Moab Valley Multicultural Center, people who need help can get a free assessment to understand their housing needs. They may also receive optional case management to help them stay housed. The Moab Valley Multicultural Center offers many social services to those experiencing homelessness. These include access to a food pantry, hygiene items, clothing vouchers, ID vouchers, and help with filling out applications.
Donations can be shipped or dropped off at the Moab Valley Multicultural Center.
