Leticia was born and grew up in central Mexico. She worked there as an elementary school teacher until coming to Moab in 1985. She spent the next several years learning to speak English and earning a Utah teaching certificate. She worked with the Grand County School district teaching ESL and Spanish. She quit this job in 2006 in order to found the MVMC. She has worked since then as one of Moab’s strongest advocates for the under served. She has served on numerous boards and committees such as the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior, through the Mexican consulate and the Utah Judicial Counsel Committee for Resources for Self-represented Parties. She was selected as on of Utah’s Enlightened 50 in 2013. She now runs the MVMC’s Crisis Intervention program dealing with issues ranging from immigration and legal problems to domestic disputes.
