The Moab Valley Multicultural Center on Sept. 21 will present Dancing with the Moab Stars.

The 7 p.m. event is based on the television dance competition and will showcase Moab’s talented and generous community “while bringing together a diverse cross-section of people for an evening of frivolity and culture,” according to a press release from MVMC. Eight pairs will compete for the title of champion.

This year’s event will also showcase other community dancers. Tickets are available at MVMC and Back of Beyond Books. They are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.

The MVMC has been busy in the community with other activities. The nonprofit organization has distributed a weekly “care share” to clients and their families thanks to Youth Garden Project, and has wrapped up its Multicultural Mondays Summer Camp while partnering with Moonflower Community Coop to provide healthy culturally-rich meals to camp participants. Members have also cooked for a Weed ‘N’ Feed at YGP.

The organization has successfully finished another backpack drive with the support of St. Francis Episcopal Church and the Interfaith Council, according to a press release. Members have helped at Seekhaven’s Community Art Night making worry-dolls, and made guest visits to the MARC’s Arty Farty Summer Camp and Story Time Hour at the Grand County Public Library.

All the while, MVMC has continued to provide crisis, interpretation, and advocacy services to the community.

“This summer has been a test-run of a new partnership program with our friends of the Youth Garden Project,” said a MVMC press release. “As many of you know, YGP runs a community supported agriculture program which drops fresh fruits, veggies and herbs on members’ doorsteps. By supporting the CSA program you are also supporting their year-round youth programming.” This summer has been the first implementation of the Care Share Program. Each week a bag of goodies has been donated to MVMC to disperse to a family on its crisis intervention list. “We’ve successfully distributed to over 10 families! Gracias, YGP!” said MVMC.
